FAQ

This is the space to introduce visitors to the business or brand. Briefly explain who's behind it, what it does and what makes it unique. Share its core values and what this site has to offer.

  • STL Bookish Events is a collective created to bring together local authors, readers, and small businesses through bookish events throughout the St. Louis area. Our goal is to create welcoming spaces where readers can discover new books, meet local authors, and support the businesses that make our community special.

  • Most of them are! Whenever possible, we want our events to remain free for readers. Instead of charging admission, we simply encourage you to come ready to support local authors, shop small, and show some love to our host businesses.

Occasionally, special events, workshops, or experiences may require a ticket. Any ticket price will always be clearly listed on the individual event page.

  • For now, our events take place throughout St. Louis and the surrounding areas at local bookstores, cafés, breweries, restaurants, shops, event spaces, and other small businesses.

Each event listing will include the exact location, address, and any venue-specific information.

  • It depends on the event. Many of our events are completely open to the public, while others may require a free RSVP or paid ticket because of venue capacity.

Check the individual event page for details before attending.

  • Yes. STL Bookish Events does not permit generative AI-created or AI-assisted creative work to be sold, promoted, or represented at our events.

This includes AI-generated artwork, illustrations, books, written content, merchandise designs, book covers, graphics, and other creative materials. We believe in supporting human authors, artists, designers, and creators.

  • Our primary focus is celebrating and creating opportunities for local and independent authors, but we strive to create a welcoming environment for all authors so participation may vary depending on the individual event.

Each event may have its own theme, genre focus, or author requirements.

  • Author and vendor applications will be posted on our website and social media when opportunities become available.

Submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance. Each event is curated based on available space, event theme, genre mix, products offered, and the needs of the host venue.

  • Most participating authors and vendors will pay a vendor or table fee to help cover the costs of organizing and producing the event.

Fees vary depending on the event, venue, table size, and what is included. All costs will be provided before you commit to participating.

  • Yes, but vendors must have the appropriate licensing or written permission to sell merchandise based on an author's, publisher's, or other rights holder's intellectual property.

Unlicensed merchandise—including unauthorized “inspired by” products—is not permitted at STL Bookish Events.

  • It depends on the event! You may find romance, fantasy, romantasy, mystery, horror, contemporary fiction, young adult, poetry, nonfiction, and plenty more.

Some events may focus on a particular genre or theme, while others will feature a broader mix of local authors.

  • Many are, but it depends on the venue and event. Some authors may sell books or merchandise containing mature themes, and certain events may take place at breweries, bars, or other 21+ venues. Any age restrictions will be clearly listed on the event page.

Parents and guardians are responsible for determining what content is appropriate for minors in their care.

  • Yes! Individual authors may have their own signing policies or limits, so we recommend checking the event details or asking the author directly.

And if you're able, consider purchasing something from the author or host business while you're there. Supporting the people who make these events possible helps us keep creating them.

  • Generally, yes! We love seeing your event photos and social posts.

Please ask before taking close-up photos or videos of individual authors, vendors, or attendees, and always respect someone's request not to be photographed.

STL Bookish Events may also take photos or video during events for social media and promotional purposes.

  • Pet policies are determined by the individual venue, not STL Bookish Events. Please check the event listing or contact the venue before bringing a pet.

Service animals are permitted in accordance with applicable law.

  • Many of our host businesses offer food, coffee, drinks, or other goodies—and we strongly encourage you to support them while you're there!

Availability will depend on the venue and will be noted on individual event pages whenever possible.

  • Parking and accessibility vary by venue. We will include available information on each event page whenever possible.

If you have a specific accessibility question or accommodation request, please contact us before the event so we can help provide information about the venue.

  • We will make every reasonable effort to hold events as scheduled, but safety comes first.

If severe weather or another unexpected situation affects an event, updates will be posted on our website and social media channels as soon as possible.

  • Most STL Bookish Events are free for readers. For paid events, tickets and author/vendor fees are generally non-refundable unless otherwise stated. If STL Bookish Events cancels an event and does not reschedule it, applicable refunds will be issued according to that event's policy.

Please review the individual event details before purchasing a ticket or vendor space.

  • Follow STL Bookish Events on social media and check our website's Events page for upcoming markets, signings, meetups, special events, application announcements, and other bookish happenings around St. Louis.

  • We love working with local St. Louis businesses!

If you're a bookstore, café, brewery, restaurant, shop, event venue, or other local business interested in hosting or collaborating on a bookish event, reach out through our contact page. We're always excited to explore new ways to bring readers and authors into local spaces.

  • Because supporting local is a huge part of why STL Bookish Events exists. Our events aren't just about books—they're about strengthening the community around them. We want readers to discover local authors, local businesses, and new places throughout STL that they may not have found otherwise.

So when you attend an event, grab a coffee, order a drink, browse the shop, buy a book, and help us keep the local bookish community thriving.
